School Spirit Jewelry Brings "A Smile from Ear to Ear"
When a friends daughter asked him to make her some fun jewelry to wear to her graduation ceremony Lowe presented her with a pair of earrings he had made which featured beads in the schools colors and finished them off with dangling eagle charms - the school's mascot.
"Everyone loved them," says Lowe, founder of OMO Studios, a jewelry design and production studio. Lowe didn't know it, but he had just scored a touchdown towards finding his own special niche in the jewelry industry.
Today, Lowe, who specializes in a line of animal and custom pet charm jewelry, is developing a line of unique school spirit and team mascot charm jewelry. The collection will include necklaces, bracelets, shoe charms, earrings, zipper pulls and keychains. Each charm is crafted from 1/8 inch thick acrylic, digitally colorized and hand cut then assembled with beads to create the eyecatching pieces. "What I found was there's not much of a selection in these types of jewelry that's nice, affordable and fun," said Lowe. "You either have really cheesy rhinestone stuff or mass produced die cast metal - both which have been the norm for years - now you can have colorful eyecatching pieces that really make a fun statement." Lowe's unique and fun-to-wear jewelry fills that gap. At an affordable price, students, faculty, family and alumni can buy custom, quality jewelry that can be worn just about anywhere. Designs retail between $2.99 to $9.99 each.
Lowe, of Austell, GA, started in 1990 selling animal designs at area craft shows and festivals. In January of 2005 he began offering his animal and custom pet designs exclusively through his newly opened eBay store and personal web site. "The very first pair I listed at auction for $9.99 sold for $30 with 8 bidders fighting over them," Lowe says. He is now fielding regular requests from organizations and retailers asking for wholesale pricing and fundraising information. Recently, Lowe launched a unique electronic fundraising program on his web site which features a hassle free and fresh alternative to the traditional candles, candy and wrapping paper.
Lowe has gotten such a good reception with his unique line of fun jewelry, he will soon begin marketing to area schools offering his fundraising program. "I think that especially in the smaller closeknit communities, people are more supportive of their children's schools and sports teams and this line of jewelry helps them proudly show that support while helping their booster clubs raise money," Lowe says.
